Dare to be Different
A truly inspiring photographic project that celebrates alternative fashion, the joy of dressing and diversity through over 200 individual looks and styles.
Based in London, Anthony Lycett uses photography with a sharp awareness of diversity. He works mainly on portrait series with an almost scientific, methodic approach. The idea behind the Self-Styled project came from Anthony's interest in people who have a unique sense of self, inventive minds and the confidence to express themselves freely. Anthony says, 'My work consists of putting each person in front of a neutral background to isolate them from their own background. That way I can focus on the details of their style and character.' Anthony talks to his subjects, observes how they behave, decrypts their body language and attempts to understand the relationship they have with their own personal style, while seeking out the difference between their interpreted identity and their real being. He feels anything is possible if one looks hard enough.
